Marie Chantal Dumont
Canada/Italy
Marie Chantal Dumont is a vocal artist. She sees the voice as a tool to create inner space, fluidity, a shared experience engaging the singer and the listener. A possibility to create a particular connection in time and space.
Born in Montreal, she has been living in Milan, Italy, for many years. She studied piano for over ten years and likes to accompany herself at the guitar, but her true passion is for polyphonic singing and folk tradition. Since 1995, she has been singing with different choirs – among them: Choeur estudiantin de l’Université Libre de Bruxelles, Coro di Micene, Cantosospeso.
She currently dedicates herself to CeVoCê, a vocal trio based in Milan, in which world music and polyphony unfold in a set of vocal experiments. Their music floats from different countries and continents, passing through many cultures, traditions, languages, melodies, rhythms and harmonies, creating a thread of voices from around the world. Their collaboration with Ararat Ensemble Orchestra brought them to perform at the Premio Andrea Parodi in Cagliari, among other great Italian folk artists and musicians.
Chantal also cultivates different other talents that she likes to combine with singing and music.
As an educator, she has designed musical educational activities for international realities, with the help of singing. The interweaving of video, writing and music in her artistic projects (# for Ivan, Acte Nécessaire, Dissociée, A|Maze Matera…) creates space for new forms of expression.
