Lena Rykner is a professional dancer, choreographer and dance teacher born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1990. She started to dance from early childhood at her mother Denise Klein’s studio and performed with her children’s troupe at the State Theater and at the Antwerp State Opera. In 1998 she immigrated to Israel.
She studied at the Jerusalem Conservatory with Prof. Hassya Levy-Agron and Luda Krendel, and from age 12 also trained with Svetlana Sorin.
She graduated from the High-School of the Jerusalem Academy of Music & Dance and got a B.Dance degree at The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. She participated in different International workshops and festivals, in particular with the Forsythe Improvisation Technique with Antony Rizzi, Tamas Moricz, Noah Gelber and others.
Danced with the Academy Dance Ensemble, the Jerusalem Dance Theater Company and in different projects, among them with MASH Dance House in the Percival Project at Theatre Freiburg and Jerusalem Art Festival.
Since 2014 Lena Rykner is a dancer at the Rina Schenfeld Dance Theater – Tel Aviv and teaches at different studios and High School Dance Departments in Israel.
She was personal assistant to Rina Schenfeld in Paris during Schenfeld’s participation in the production “Berenice” directed by Claus Guth at the Paris Opera in 2018.
Lena Rykner creates choreography of her own and is a member of ‘Yael’- Association for independent creative artists in Jerusalem.
The pieces “Inside-Out”, performed in Amsterdam 2017, her solo “STUFF” premiered January 2019 in Jerusalem and “Pas de Trois” premiered in April 2019 at the Jerusalem Art Festival.
She has been invited with her solo “STUFF” and performed at Anima Mundi during Venice Biennale with the support of the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sports and at ODT Festival Singapore in 2019, was selected to be performed at Craft Choreography Vienna, PlaStforma Minsk and WDF Taipei.
