Brazil/Germany
Helena Fernandino started her dance training in her hometown Barbacena, Brazil, and continued her education across Europe. In parallel, she studied linguistics and received a master’s degree. Since 2003 she has been living in Germany, where she works as a dancer, teacher and choreographer, under the direction of and in collaboration with renowned choreographers and directors. After her engagements at the Städtische Bühnen Münster and Gehart-Hauptmann Theater Zittau Görlitz, she worked again as a freelance artist.
Her work as a dancer and choreographer includes, in addition to the stage, other formats such as video dance, site-specific performances and interventions in public space. As a dance teacher, she gives regular courses in Dresden and travels with workshops in Germany, Italy, Sweden and Brazil.
In 2013 she received the Saxon State Scholarship for the Artistic Master Class Palucca University of Dance Dresden. Your research examines the interface between dance and cognitive linguistics, with a focus on somatic movement approaches.
Since 2015 she is a member of the mixed-abled Performing Arts Company Un-Label.
Together with Wagner Moreira Helena is running C.O.R.E. Dance Projects, a platform for dance production and research in dance, including mixable arts, art and social changes, organizing training and workshops and producing pieces in Europe and Brazil.
<< Working with Yuval’s mantra was a two-way street. On the one hand, the invitation to be in deep contact with myself, intimate, intense, and on the other, spontaneous expression, body, and sounds. From meeting me to meeting others, experiencing senses, gestures, sounds, delicacy and strength, spreading it all out. >>
