Martin Wistinghausen is a composer and bass singer.
He was born in 1979 in Düsseldorf (Germany) and he studied singing, German literature and composing in Cologne, Mannheim, Düsseldorf, and at University “Mozarteum“ (Salzburg) with Adriana Hölszky.
He has been awarded many prizes and scholarships as both singer and composer, including the first prize in the national finals of the competition “Jugend musiziert“ (Solo Voice), and prizewinner of the International Singing Competition of the Rheinsberg Chamber Opera and he was awarded the composition prize of the “Berliner Cappella” as well as scholarships in Basel (Switzerland)/ “Fondation Bartels” and at Wiepersdorf Castle.
In 2019 he received the Düsseldorf Promotional Award for Music.
He has sung with such renowned ensembles as the Basler Madrigalisten, “Musica Fiata Köln” and “L’arpa festante”.
He is often to be heard in programmes for bass solo, as Jesus in the Passions of Bach and Schütz, and as the bass soloist in the Mozart Requiem.
In addition to this, he is also an experienced performer in the field of Lied and Contemporary music. His compositions have been heard in many festivals and broadcasts in Europe (SWR, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Espace 2) and have been performed by noted ensembles, such as the “Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik“ and the “Neue Vocalsolisten“ from Stuttgart. He has received many commissions, including one from the Komische Oper in Berlin.
