Claudia Cervenca is an experimental vocalist and performing artist.
Born in Romania she has been living in Austria since 1990.
Claudia Cervenca is an artist who loves to explore the human vocal potential. After studying jazz in Vienna, she finds increasingly more interest in free improvisation. She continually searches for sounds that are covering a large spectrum of qualities: from primitive, minimalist and fragile to unrefined, rough, noisy and guttural.
Claudia Cervenca filters influences from jazz, etno, noise, and contemporary music, and adds elements of a made-up language, words and poetry creating vocal soundscapes. Her performances evolve into an original artistic expression of free improvisation and experimental music.
She is also interested in performing new music written by contemporary composers and has performed music by Joan La Barbara, Jenifer Walshe, Judith Unterpertinger, Elisabeth Harnik, Anahita Abassi, Pia Palme, Yiran Zhao, Daniel Mayer, Tamara Friebel, Raimund Vogtenhuber.

In order to create a platform for experimental art, she started the performance series FERMATA (2014-2016) together with dancer and choreographer Katharina Weinhuber.

She received the Austrian World Music Award in 2007 (Trio Troica) and the nomination for “Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in 2008” ( Troica – CD Dor – 2008).
