Winfried Haas
Germany
Winfried Haas was born as the third son of a couple of architects in 1961 in Celle, West-Germany.
From his early childhood he was interested in movement, music and construction, which he cultivated in a search of expression.
After graduating from school he started studying architecture, at the same time he subscribed for ballett classes. The traumatic loss of his older brother drew his focus on dancing which helped him feel himself and overcome grief. This inner necessity as well as outer encouragement lead him to a professional dance education in Hannover.
He was engaged in several theaters and companies, e.g. Braunschweig, Düsseldorf, Halle and Koblenz.
In 1992, soon after the German Reunification, he decided to pick up his architecture studies and moved to Dresden. He was fascinated by the historical situation of the former GDR and soon participated in the reconstruction of public and historical buildings like the citycastle and the state-theatere. This invoved him in the newly organizing art and dance-scene.
He was co-founder and member of the Exis-Tanz companie and became more engaged in New Dance and Contact-Improvisation, which lead to teaching and choreographing. His respect for traditonal and contemporary art, dance and music are represented in many performances as a guest of the Semperoper Dresden.
Winfried Haas works as a freelancer in both professions. He has an almost adult son and lives with his wife in Dresden.
<< When I heard Yuval’s mantra I had feelings of sadness and surrender. When I reflected on it, I started to laugh, not to take myself too seriously and not to feed the negative. My human sign them emerged from emptiness and admission. It brought me a feeling of liberation.>>
